Music for Singing & Listening
“Music is the universal language that speaks directly to our souls. It expresses that which has no words. It reaches across countries, ages and language boundaries, and instantly unites us in purpose."
Never underestimate the power of the music you may choose for a funeral gathering, whether for listening or singing.
Music for a funeral should be chosen to –
- Help people feel connected, both to each other and the person that has died
- Provide support and emotional safety for tears or a smile
The music will be your choice, and When We Remember provides important things to consider when choosing music to perfectly remember each individual. It is often more memorable or poignant than any words spoken.
Sometimes we will want to sing our praises loudly in a particular religious style, others may wish to include some pop music, and still others will have very definite ideas about music that would be suitable.
Increasingly we are coming to realise the immense power of music to speak directly to our emotions. The occasion of a funeral gathering is a particularly sensitive and vulnerable time, and your music must be chosen with care.
We have included on the CD When We Remember many of the most requested classical tunes, in a format that allows for 3 minute reflections. Also included are some examples of hymns that may be suitable for a variety of beliefs and traditions.
If possible, consider group singing at a funeral gathering. It can be a wonderful way of uniting in common purpose, and finding strength in togetherness.
We have not included contemporary “pop” tunes on the CD; these are readily available and sound best in their original form by the original artist.
The enclosed CD is also a beautiful comfort in its own right. You may like to take a moment to listen to some samples below – |
